There are unfortunately not many options out there when it comes to portable monitors. I have done a lot of research on them and I bought (and returned) two portable monitors before buying this Acer monitor. I first purchased a cheap no brand portable monitor for $80 that broke in just 2 days - the power and menu buttom stopped working and the image started flickering. Then I went for the Lenovo m15 which is a good product, it feels more premium than the competition but it's also much more expensive (over $200). The problem with the Lenovo is that it has only USB-C ports and no power connection. There's no HDMI option or a dedicated power supply.
I finally decided to purchase this Acer monitor which sits right inbetween the two. I'm very happy with it. No flickering, very good picture quality and plenty of connectivity. This monitor has 4 ports and it comes with all cables you need including an HDMI to HDMI-mini cable, a USB-C cable and a power adapter. I really recommend it!
Very happy with plug n play on my 2021 M1 Macbook Pro. Literally no settings to adjust on the computer or on the Acer monitor, I just plugged it in and it worked. I do wish it would stand in Profile view, but it is landscape only. The resolution is fine for running Twitch, Tweetdeck, etc on the side screen, and I am very pleased. Amazing value. Are the bezels big? Yes, but same on 15 inch model, and once watching the screen they go unnoticed. Since its portable, nice to have something to grab hold of, the bezels are functional. No built-in speakers. No need external power necessary, works off the USB-C power. It didnt flicker or anything. Some reviews mention a dark screen, especially when running from a laptop on battery. I do not at all notice this on my MacBook Pro; the Acer screen is bright and fine even when I am running 100% on laptop battery (i.e. laptop unplugged), so maybe this is not a MacOS issue for this Acer.
Once reason to consider the 13.3 inch model is the pixel ratio is the same so the resolution should be better on the smaller screen. No screen lag for social media use (I do not game). The USB-C to USB-C cable is about three feet long, which is nice to plug the monitor in to either side (near or far side) of your laptop.
Recommended.
The unreliability that has developed is disappointing. No knowing if the monitor will work or not, and how much finagling with cords or restarts will be required to make the thing come alive makes for an unproductive work day. It looks as though the current price is more like $170, which is way over-priced considering the issues people seem to be having. I haven't check out other options but it would be better to spend more, if necessary, and get a product that will have a longer life and better reliability. I have not contacted Acer support yet - although the reviews on that don't seem to be encouraging, either. Think carefully before spending close to $200 on something that has a strong possibility of having problems within a year of purchase. Not sure what the extended warranty is like or how much extra that was, but if you take the plunge and buy this monitor, that might help to mitigate any future issues.

As you can see, it’s still alive.
I brought this thing from Northern Ontario to Sao Paulo to Campinas back to Sao Paulo to Rio, back to Sao Paulo, dropped it from a desk twice during the week of Carnaval, brought it to Campinas and it’s still working 2 weeks later. This thing is BUILT LIKE A TANK. So the guy complaining it’s fragile and he broke it? … well…. he broke it. That’s totally on him.
I have the expensive macbook pro screen and this portable monitor in my dual screen setup. I do most of my work with my IDE on the portable monitor. Because it’s so thing I can place it in spots the laptop just can’t go. It’s way more ergonomic if you’re playing digital nomad.
This monitor is probably going to visit more countries this year than most of your friends. I literally won’t be able to travel without it now that ai’ve tried one.
