Pencil is balanced from the exact middle of the pencil. I've never favored this for the main reason is strains the wrist moreso than the elbow when writing. Lengthy periods of time will leave cramps and ur hand and make your hand feel arthritic. However, pencils with weight in the tip, pencils like the pentel graphgear 500, tend to allow long periods of time without any issues. This result is from putting strain on the elbow. The equivalent of using the different weights would be a violin bow to trying to scratch your wrist with the same hand.Buy this pencil if you're willing to fork over 2x what the Graphgear offers, in price, with future wrist problems. The lead that comes with the pencil is top notch, saving this review from a 2 star review. When using this 13 dollar pencil, you will hear rattling inside the pencil. For god knows what reason, it rattles. I've removed the lead and yet it continues. I figured its just the built qaulity of the pencil, as other very low grade mechanical pencils are.The place you grip the pencil is way too far toward the tip. From my experience with pencils similar to this one, it causes you to write smaller and strain your hand more. This also impedes drawing fluid circular shapes. However, going back to the pentel, which is nowhere compred to this price bracket, has a further back pencil grip of the same gritty material.2 things to improve in this pencil would be to offset the grip higher and increase the weight to the tip.Keeping the plastic barrel is fine, that should't be an issue. I can imagine the paint will wear off eventually due to the black nature of the pencil and it being on metal. Be weary if you plan on making this your final and only stufy pencil.
